What we Accept for Consignment

Second Sitting accepts home furnishings and furniture in new and like-new condition. Items for consignment may include sofas, dining room tables, chairs, china cabinets, buffets, consoles, rocking chairs, occasional tables, curio cabinets, ottomans, desks, lamps, mirrors, tabletop accessories, sets of crystal and china, area rugs 6x8 feet or smaller, chandeliers, and many other decorative items. We do not accept electronics, floral arrangements or artificial plants, bedding, window treatments, grandfather or grandmother clocks, mattresses, or repaired, broken, damaged or unclean items.

Appointments

Appointments are taken for consigning smaller items on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and two Saturdays a month. We cannot accept drop-offs due to our limited storage space. All items must be freshly cleaned, polished and free of all dust and dirt. Vacuum all upholstered pieces, including underneath cushions and the very bottoms of any

furniture that may have cobwebs or storage dirt. We suggest having upholstery dry-cleaned to present it best. Area rugs should come wrapped in the brown paper from the cleaners. A fresh coat of spray paint on painted wicker, or coat of wax or polish can mean the difference between getting $500 instead of $300 for that table! A $25.00 cleaning fee will be charged for any cleaning that needs to be done by us to sell your item in its best condition. Remember, you are paying us to SELL your items.

Requirements and Fees

Photos are required for furniture to be consigned and may be sent to the above address, dropped off at the front counter in the store, or sent over the internet. These photos can be polaroids, digital, disposable camera type, or even old photos with people in them if necessary. Please include descriptions with manufacturer, age, original price, condition, and when you will be needing to send it to us, if you are moving. Digital photos can be sent to us, along with your descriptions to second.sitting@sbcglobal.net. We can return photos to you when we get the furniture on the floor; however, we require a photo to be wait-listed. Second Sitting will sometimes provide a home-visit to assess you item for a $25.00 fee, which may be refunded when we receive your items to consign. Once we have determined that we will accept your furniture items, you will be placed on the wait-list and we will call you as soon as we have room for the items you wish to consign. We generally replace a sold sofa with the next sofa on the wait list, a dining room with another dining room, etc. We will do our best to accommodate moving dates. However, it may be necessary for us to discuss alternate plans if our space availability does not coincide with your time requirements.

Moving and Delivery Services

It is the seller's responsibility to deliver furniture and the buyer's responsibility to remove furniture from the store. We may be able to deliver your purchases to you home at a very reasonable rate. Check with store personnel for availability.

We also maintain a list of moving and delivery services which you can contract with independently. We do not employ or endorse any particular moving services. You may use your own transportation or moving services; however, we are not able to move or help you move your furniture from your vehicle to our doors. Please bring your own muscle power to carry anything you need to bring in.
